IN recent weeks, the Western Telegraph has covered the ongoing story surrounding the development of the Old CP School site in Narberth.
Clearly questions remain over the scheme and it is disappointing that neither the local councillor, the developers nor the local authority have sought to address these concerns in a public forum (Sainsbury’s set to get Narberth approval, Western Telegraph, January 14).
Narberth is an example of a successful high street, with a wide selection of quality shops that can attract visitors whilst satisfying the needs of the community too.
If the plan which has been recommended by planning officers is good for the town, why is no-one prepared to showcase the development?
In last week’s paper, (Public meetings to quiz council) acting head of paid service Ian Westley commented: “the public would like us to be more open and transparent, and to engage more meaningfully with local people and communities.”
This seems like the perfect issue to start with. Let’s get a conversation started on how we continue to develop Narberth and use it as a good example to create jobs and support individuals to start their own businesses that will support the re-development of our other hard pressed town centres.
I’ve signed the online petition demanding a public meeting, I hope others will do the same – find it at http:// tinyurl.com/narbpet
