I WAS recently diagnosed with a condition of the lung, as my GP put it, akin to asbestosis.

I am sure we are all aware of just how serious this is, but apparently not the health board.

My GP, after tests and an xray referred me to a respiratory consultant at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

Imagine my complete shock when I discovered that the waiting time to see the consultant is 12 months.

This is a horrific and unacceptable situation as this condition can only worsen and how much worse will it be in 12 months’ time?

I was always given to believe that prevention is better than cure but seemingly others believe otherwise. As if this wasn’t bad enough my wife is registered disabled and I am her official sole carer.

If I go seriously ill who will look after her as she will not be able to cope on her own?

It is terribly sad and extremely worrying that Withybush has been allowed to get to this state.

Finally may I say that this is in no way a criticism of the staff at Withybush as I believe they do an excellent job under very difficult circumstances.
