Having been fortunate to have enjoyed robust health throughout my life, consequently I had never been hospitalised or knew anything about them.

On July 13 I had surgery successfully carried out by the consultant Mr Salvam and his team, I was well enough to be discharged for convalescence at my daughter’s home on Tuesday, July 14.Thursday, July 16 late evening I became so unwell that it was deemed necessary that I should go to A & E at Withybush.

Upon arrival I was examined by three doctors, my stomach and chest were xrayed before being admitted to a ward, where I received constant care and attention throughout the night. Friday morning I was visited by Mr Parekh and Doctor Shane Witharage and given a thorough examination before being put on a course of treatment.

The treatment was administered by highly proficient and skilled nurses of a cheerful disposition. On Saturday I received a visit and examination by the consultant Mr Salvam, Mr Parekh and Dr Shane Witharage and the treatment continued.Sunday morning I was visited by them and it was decided that I had made such progress that I could be discharged that afternoon. As far as my personal experience was concerned I received the highest standard of care, treatment and cheerfulness one could possibly hope for from Mr Salvam the consultant right across the spectrum of treatment and nursing care.

Withybush Hospital Haverfordwest is an excellent example of the high standard hospitals in the National Health Service are able to achieve.
