I AM writing in support of Pembrokeshire County Council’s plans to stop supplying black bin bags for free. It has always surprised me that black bin bags continue to be supplied given the push towards recycling and reducing landfill waste.

Waste sent to landfill cost the council £80 per tonne and is now shipped to Sweden for disposal. Black bin bags are readily available for sale in shops and my family of four, including a baby in nappies, uses just one or two per fortnight. With increasing cuts in public spending and difficult decisions having to be made, I would prefer my council tax payments go to protecting essential services like social care and education. Encouraging recycling and saving money?

Seems like a win-win situation to me.
