A LETTER to Cllr Adams: Hubberston Community Centre is under threat of closure.

Indeed I understand it will be closed in April 2016.

The excuse the County Council appear to be putting forward is that the premises are no longer viable as no one is using it.

Retiring back to Milford Haven a few years ago, I was rather disappointed at the lack of activities in the immediate vicinity.

If you scan down the opportunities for adult education in Pembrokeshire, there is more going on in Tenby or Crymych than there is in Milford Haven/Hubberston.

I am amazed the hall in Hubberston is not used for a multitude of activities that would serve the local community.

I remember it used to be a hive of activities when I was a girl, but now there are no friendship groups, no keep fit, no luncheon club, no guides, brownies, scouts or beavers, no youth clubs, no arts and crafts, no drop-in centre for coffee.

I realise such activities very much depend on local volunteers and some have recently folded due to the ill health, age, or moving of such worthy people and others have not as yet seen fit to step up to the mark.

But, if you know somewhere is likely to close, you do not make an effort to keep things going. In fact you look for other premises.

Hence even those that had used the hall for years have now found elsewhere.

There has been no obvious attempt to encourage the hall’s usage as far as I can see. A devious ploy to ensure lack of use?

When you see the plans for the new centre in Neyland, you wonder yet again – Is Hakin/Hubberston actually on the map as far as the council is concerned?

What provision for such activities are planned for the local community here?

What the hall needs is a refurbishment and a manager to allow the facility to be used properly. Are there any plans for such a revitalising of a much needed, but run down resource?
