I RECENTLY attended the Health Board meeting to hear members endorse the decision for the Cancer Day Unit at Withybush Hospital.
As readers will know, the journey has been long. Before his death, I interviewed Adam Evans-Thomas when I worked with Radio Pembrokeshire.
Adam had been diagnosed with leukaemia and he was on a fundraising mission.
He was an inspirational guy and his enthusiasm to raise money for a service that would ultimately benefit others rather than himself has stuck with me.
It is especially pleasing to know that through the determination of his mum Chris, on behalf of Adam’s Bucketful of Hope Appeal, in collaboration with other local organisations, Adam’s legacy of a Cancer Day Unit will be fulfilled.
Last week, I visited Withybush and met Pembroke Dock Community School pupil Elly Neville with her Pembrokeshire flag.
It was lovely to finally catch up with Elly to support her fundraising campaign for Ward 10 and to speak positively with her family about building services for the future.
We all know someone who has been affected by cancer.
Improving cancer treatment times across Wales is welcome news as is the commitment of the Health Board to develop a rural model of health care for our communities.
If elected in May, I’ll be holding them to that.
