SO a sixth form college is being prepared. From reports in the Western Telegraph on April 20, it seems that Pembrokeshire College is seeking permission for a £6.6 million A-level centre on the college campus to include a sports hall and fitness centre.
Does this mean the college is assured they will be enrolling many more sixth formers than they housed previously and more than those about to join them from the St Davids and Fishguard catchment areas?
Does this mean they are convinced that the sixth formers from the Haverfordwest catchment area will be joining them and eventually those in Milford Haven, Pembroke and Tenby will follow?
But, of course, those who opt for Welsh medium/bilingual education will be treated differently.
If common sense prevails and there is an 11 to 18 school in Haverfordwest then parents in the St Davids and Fishguard areas might be tempted to send their children there for post-16 education and, quite reasonably, they would expect their county councillors, Assembly Members and Member of Parliament to support their wishes.
I am reminded of an old Arabic proverb – “Trust in God but tie up your camels”.
