MANY of you reading this today may have voted to stay in the Common Market we joined in 1973. We’re now part of a Single Market of 500 million people across 28 countries.

We also continue to trade far more widely in the world as well. That trade is why, despite the tough economic times we’ve been going through with austerity, we still have relative prosperity in Wales and the UK.

The Wales we see around us, the things we take for granted as part of everyday life, are because of how our country has grown over the last 40 years. Part of that story has been through our membership of the European club. And, just as we have democratic control in the UK through our Parliament, in Wales through our National Assembly, we also have democratic control through the European Parliament, and through the European Council of Ministers.

We know that because of the work we have done over the years as your elected representatives, as a Member of the European Parliament, as a Minister for Europe.

Those of us you elect are part and parcel of decisionmaking in Europe, no matter what some may tell you otherwise. Membership of a club has a fee, but without a doubt here in Wales we get a huge amount more back than we pay in. 150,000 jobs in Wales are dependent on that relationship. We and our children would pay a heavy price if we were to vote to leave. Being part of a club means we are able to influence outcomes as we have done for the past forty years.

Please use your vote on June 23 to vote for security, jobs and prosperity. Vote to remain a part of the EU.
