PROPAGANDA can be a very powerful weapon, but never as strong as the truth which eventually wins through.

Many claim that Boris Johnson is the blundering beast of Brexit, whilst David Cameron the wise and purposeful Prime Minister who deemed the EU as the Promised Land.

People have short memories, whilst the young have none - at least two years ago Boris had reservations when the European Commission, Volkswagen and Audi salesmen were extolling the ‘false’ advantages of the diesel car.

In the recent Referendum the majority of the younger generation preferred to remain in the EU and it was disturbing to hear that a lot of our ‘still wet behind the ears’ younger generation claimed the older generation should not be allowed to vote. These youngsters are obviously not aware, amongst many other issues, that Volkswagen, successive British Governments and predominantly the European Commission are, by their myopic and stupid actions, poisoning the very air that we breathe! You truly have to wonder to the actual education and brain washing that now appears to infiltrate our schools and universities – are our youngsters educated to a standard not to realise that, although emitting slightly more carbon dioxide (a life enhancing gas) than a petrol engine, it is a fact that diesel engines spew out minute particles which are deadly - penetrating lungs, hearts and brains. How many of our bright ‘young things’ know that a new report by the Commons environmental select committee stated that air pollution in our cities is causing the early deaths of 40,000 to 50,000 of people each year – vehicles are the main cause of air pollution in our cities, and it is getting worse.

How many realise that twenty years ago there were very few diesel cars and just diesel lorries, buses, taxis and tractors that discharged noxious and damaging fumes, with most drivers preferring petrol engines, which were quieter and less polluting. So I say to those of little life experience, to listen and venerate the more mature in society and stop listening to the misinformation, lies and ‘trying to be cool’ with the latest inthing or fashion – don’t be a Boomtown rat. Please be aware that your Brexit elders, by their actions, could be saving you from a premature death, especially those who live in a large town or city. I would ask the younger generation to actually visit their local hospital (especially in London) and ask if this pollution and subsequent toll on life is true or not, and then show some greater respect for their elders – and please do some meaningful research before you voice an opinion or indeed vote.
