Recently all households in Wales received a household enquiry form from their council.

At first I thought it was a scam but it is official, from the Electoral Registration Office.

The questions seemed to go a lot further than the normal remit for electoral registration, and one begins to wonder the real purpose of this form.

1. It asks if you are 76 or over. Why? The law is quite clear. If you are 18 or over on election day, you can vote. What is this need for an upper age enquiry? There is no maximum age for voting – yet?

2. You must notify if ‘foreigners’are at your property – clearly of interest to the Home Office and immigration.

3. Is your property a holiday home? The revenue section of the county council would love this information.

They now have powers to charge 150% council tax on such properties but where are they? Are you going to tell them?

4. Is it a legal requirement to complete the form?

The form itself raises some doubts/ Phrases such as ‘may be an offence’ or COULD be fined sounds a bit vague.

5. Is this form is in addition to and instead of the usual form we normally receive in September?

Franky; I am wondering if this is a bit of a council scam posing as electoral registration.

My form will remain incomplete pending some satisfactory answers.
