MAY I please use your publication to air an issue which has been driving me distracted since the inception of the new road layout by Fred Rees Garages, Haverfordwest.

Having suffered like all drivers at this time of year, I cannot understand why PCC does not undertake the “tweaking” of the traffic lights at this difficult junction.

It never seemed to be as awkward to manoeuvre before the new road layout, as it currently is, but the problem seems to be that two lanes of traffic are controlled by one set of lights which change simultaneously.

It perhaps might be better if the lights on the left hand lane at the new layout were left permanently on green, and then the turning to and from Perrots Road would be easier to access, traffic movement would then be less congested and the build-up past Morrisons roundabout towards Greens Roundabout and County Hall, perhaps would not occur in such numbers.

I watched the traffic last week as cars backed up as far as County Hall were at a standstill waiting for these particular traffic lights to change from red to green.

This was on different days at different times and the weather was not rainy but fine and sunny.

If fact, one has to ask why there are lights controlling the left hand side at the new layout, approaching and coming out of Perrots Road in the first place. It is only the turning from Perrots Road on to the main road, that requires any control on the left hand side, and that manoeuvre which was once simple, is now quite an undertaking at any time of year. It has of course, been compounded with the summer traffic as has the whole area.

Heaven knows, I’ve tried twice to bring it to Highways Dept.’s attention, but to no avail. One can only guess why this is so, but one has to surmise that perhaps none of Highways Dept.’s officers have to manoeuvre around this area at this time of year.

Aren’t they the lucky ones?!
