I READ with interest the letter from Cllr Michael Williams regarding previous correspondence from Mr Newman, advising him that property owners have nothing to worry about if they make their property available for 20 weeks and actually let for ten weeks, as they would be paying business rates.
I would have thought that an experienced councillor such as Cllr Williams would be aware that should the owner go down this route there would be no rates payable due to 100% business rate relief.
Surely it would be more beneficial for Pembrokeshire County Council to keep them on community charge as at least then they would be contributing financially towards the council coffers.
I do believe this decision was made by county councillors to show themselves as providing a good service to the community charge payers without thinking it through and please remember second home owners do not have a vote and elections are coming.
