I ATTENDED a presentation of the Newgale adaptation plan at The Duke of Edinburgh.

A resident produced a copy of a newspaper article which stated that the beach road would be maintained until 2036.

A member of the presentation team dismissed itwith the comment, “Don’t believe everything you read in the newspaper”.

In the non-technical summary by Atkins, Page 12.3. it reads: “The existing beach road would be maintained until 2036. The toilets, campsite.

Newsurf and Duke of Edinburgh pub, businesses on the seafront, would be expected to last until 2036, but after that point would be expected to decline over time”.

So I take it that we should not believe everything we read in this report! Or is it just a placebo that we have to swallow?

If in the past the owner of The Duke of Edinburgh had wanted to close the pub, the council would have objected on the grounds of loss of amenities. But they are quite willing to abandon The Duke and, depending on the chosen route, all the other amenities of Newgale.
