I HAVE just had an amazing experience – and even more amazing - it was free!

I took part in a Drive for Life – Driver Refresher Course, which over-65s may take part in. This is put on by Pembrokeshire County Council, with the help of grants.

It is held at the fire station in Haverfordwest and in the morning you take part in an informal session with an expert, identifying signs, voicing opinions, watching shots, gaining advice and generally increasing one’s knowledge of safe driving.

After lunch, you are taken out by a driving expert to have your skills (or lack of) assessed. After this you get back together and exchange thoughts and experiences and are awarded a certificate.

I found it very beneficial and urge all drivers of a certain age to make enquiries or look it up on the website.

After all, we need to do our bit to ensure that our roads are safer and our performance on them is the best we can make it.
