Will we live to regret closure of St Davids swimming pool ?

DEAR EDITOR

As a past resident of St Davids I have been following the ‘Battle of the Pool’ with great interest and some annoyance.

I receive the Western Telegraph every week and often speak to friends in St Davids. My late wife (a local born and bred) and I were lucky to be in St Davids when our children were in primary school before, due to work commitments, we were obliged to move.

My children received their initial swimming in the pool with Mr Conroy. I would have thought with St Davids catering for a coastal area roughly from Newgale to Trefin that a swimming pool was essential for the instruction of children for safety reasons.

I am amazed that in the reports that I have read no mention has been made of the local county councillor fighting in support of residents. I hope we will not live to regret the closure of the pool with the loss of life.

The local County Councillor has been standing up and making token gestures of protest but he is under the wing of the ruling Independent Political Group and as such has sold his constituents down the river leaving them alone to keep afloat (no pun intended) their desire to retain their pool. Just another example of the council ignoring the wishes of locals and forcing on them a facility which they would rather not have.

Check "Pool Party" to see the intensity (not) of the local Councillor's efforts here:
