Is that value for money

Dear Editor

Gordon Brown has said that from next year any public body will have to justify why anyone receiving more than £150,000 is worth that amount of public money.

As the chief executive of Pembrokeshire County Council received a package worth £183,609 last year, maybe its glorious leader would like to share the reasons why he is worth every penny?

Incidentally, that does not include the value of his free, all year round, parking space in Haverfordwest.

Is there any value in having an unelected CEO to provide strategic policy direction for the Council, if the majority political group "in control" has no policies?

There must also be some value in having all policy options reduced to one recommendation for approval, rather than having to consider all options.

In the absence of any locally grown County policies, it would seem most directions comes down from the Assembly. Services can then be tailored to suit required performance measures.
