Community comes first

9:00am Thursday 11th March 2010

Dear editor
Members of the Monkton Communities First Partnership have been contacted by people concerned about recent coverage of a report which was critical of the Communities First programme.

The criticism was in no way directed at local Communities First partnerships themselves, who were described as “dedicated people striving to deliver outcomes for the communities on the ground”.

The focus was on the Welsh Assembly which, the report states, “provides insufficient direction to service providers.”

Monkton Communities First Partnership is currently working with a number of organisations to improve quality of life in Monkton.

For example we finance springboard training, which provides free training courses for local residents; we are working with Jobcentre Plus and Want 2 Work, providing access to advisers with benefit information and back-to-work support; and with the Pembrokeshire Community Safety Team, to make Monkton a safer place to live.

I hope this sets people’s minds at rest and confirms our continuing efforts to improve the local community.
Lee Levesley

Hon Secretary,

Monkton Communities First.
