Foolish fees plan on way

Dear Editor

April 1st will mark the controversial introduction of parking charges in our county, which is misguided in logic, and self-destructive if only in the realms of common sense and validity for local businesses.

Nevertheless we must bow to the wisdom of the County Councillors who voted to introduce them. How many more ‘pounds of flesh’ will be extracted as we recover from a recession?

A few years ago Wales introduced the smoking ban on April 1st, followed by free prescriptions. They were welcome announcements for April Fools Day, but these parking charges are not welcome or necessary.

Roll on the elections and then we may deservedly see who is the fool by using our democratic right to vote.

doesnt anyone know that the county councillors and council officers sit in thier ivory tower and have no common sense at all! they dont seem to realise that town centres are dying on thier feet...so what better time to introduce parking charges to drive more people away from town centres and to the free car parks of out of town retail parks and supermarkets. seems sensible to me...maybe i should stand for the council i would fit right in !!

I fail to understand why comments and letters of Mr Tim McMahon of 36 Military Road are continually published in the letters section of the Western Telegraph
If the Western Telegraph is so obsessed with Mr McMahon’s views and comments maybe they should give him an editorial column?
It is becoming very boring listening to McMahon’s moans and groans on a weekly basis when there are many other readers of the publication whose point of view and opinion readers may wish to see published.
This would then present to the public a more rounded and diversified letters section not just the one eyed opinions of Mr McMahon

I think you might question things too much to fit in billbob, and your constituency might find itself out of favour.

Only nine councillors ( out of 60)voted for the new charges at Cabinet.
