Many trust in RNLI

8:20am Thursday 2nd September 2010

I was positively disgusted to read the comments made by Harry Mount about RNLI lifeguards (Western Telegraph, August 11th). He obviously has no respect for the sea and the forces of nature.

I have lived in this area for 28 years. I never allowed my children to bathe at Freshwater West, knowing of its reputation. In recent years I have plucked up the courage on a number of occasions to warn holidaymakers with young children about the dangers of bathing at this beach.

Mr Mount may believe that he can ‘walk on water’, but there are others who would prefer to put their trust in the RNLI crew members, who know what they are doing.

If Mr Mount should ever get into difficulties while swimming in the sea, I hope he will remember his comments about the RNLI.

Maybe crews will not be around to help him and then his reference to angels may take on an altogether different meaning.

Susan Pickett,
Cosheston.
