Wind investment

The “omniscient” Dave Haskell (Letters, 18th Jan) pronounces that only a very misguided person would have a wind generator fitted to their house.

But, in general terms, ‘twas ever thus: for structural reasons, and because wind turbines want “clean” wind but unfortunately buildings set up turbulence and eddies, putting wind turbines on existing houses is seldom recommended – indeed, even designing for them “from scratch” is no easytask.

But what about a nominal 6 kW tower-mounted turbine in an open area having a good wind resource, generating 15,000 units of electricity a year? Offered such an opportunity to copiously produce clean energy and earn a respectable rate of return, only a very misguided person would elect to not make the investment.
