It may be of some interest to your readers how the closure of these units has failed to improve the service at Withybush A & E.On thursday night at 11.30pm , we recieved a phone call from a friend in pain asking if we could take her to the hospital. She had contacted her on call doctor, who advised that she should make her way to the hospital where the on call doctor would drive to and see her..We picked her up and arrived at withybush at 12.30pm where she was told she would not have to wait as she was not a A & E ' customer'.After a wait of 1 1/2 hours she was seen by the on call doctor who apologised for the delay. The on call doctor explained that she had had to see the A & E patients before our friend as there was no A & E doctor available. This doctor had to come from llandyssul to see our friend and provided a very proffesional service in diagnosing a broken rib. However the question that should be asked of Wthybush management is why was there no adequate doctor cover for an A & E departtment..I hate to think how long the 'accident' customers would have had to wait for treatment if the on call doctor had not been called out.
