Dear Sir, With the very real possibility of a future Scottish Parliament voting to get rid of the Trident Nuclear bases at Coulport and Faslane, the Government will be looking for a viable alternative. Milford Haven was a runner in the search for a deep-water base in 1963 when the Government was searching for a base for the Polaris Nuclear fleet. We have to be alert to the possibility that Milford Haven is once again being considered for this purpose. Some twenty odd years ago Pembrokeshire County Council declared our county to be Nuclear free. Can we be assured the Council would still be willing to maintain that declaration now?
Maybe the promise of jobs would prove too hard to resist, after all they were in favour of building a power station which would be burning Orimulsion (the dirtiest fuel on earth) on the promise of jobs, and we now have a power station which discharges warm water into the estuary endangering some native flora and fauna.
We must be vigilant in the future to protect our children©ˆs safety and health.
Val Jones
