Anger at bus service proposals
12:17pm Wednesday 5th September 2012 in Letters
BURIED in the detail in the report “Bus Services Facing the Axe” (Western Telegraph, August 22nd) is the fact that there will be no public transport to Withybush Hospital on Sundays from the end of the month.
This “top down” delegated decision by the director of transport Ian Westley, the chief executive Bryn Parry Jones, and the cabinet member, Councillor Rob Lewis (Martletwy), as to how to compensate for loss of Government funding came as a bombshell to rank and file county councillors.
We were not consulted over these drastic cuts; our opinion on the priorities for our constituents was not sought; and we were presented with a fait accompli when council was in recess.
There has been no discussion with councillors to ensure that a reasoned democratic decision be made as to where the cuts should fall.
Despite last year’s two scathing inspection reports that criticised senior management for its culture of secrecy, and failure to keep councillors informed, it seems nothing has changed.
