Thanks for supporting petition

ON Wednesday, September 26th, we presented a petition of 4,500 signatures to the Welsh Assembly Petitions Committee. 4,500 people all united in their belief that Pembrokeshire County Council’s proposal to site a Civic Amenity Centre next to Brooklands Nursing home is fundamentally wrong.

On behalf of Brooklands and the residents’ families, we would like to sincerely thank all of those people who have taken the time to sign the petition and leave comments of support. We have all been truly overwhelmed by the level of support locally, nationally and internationally.

We have been touched by all those people that have written letters of support to the newspapers, many local people whom we do not even know.

I am sure that if our residents were aware of all the support and strength of feeling within our small community, they too would be overwhelmed.

To know that there are so many people who value the dignity and respect of our elderly and mentally ill and are willing to fight for the rights of people who are unknown to them, is truly heartening.

The latest from Pembrokeshire County Council is that they are ‘unsure’ as to when the application will be submitted. The petition has been initially discussed at the Senedd, and it has been decided that a short enquiry will be held and that the matter should be brought to the attention of the First Minister.

We know we still have a campaign on our hands, which we will continue to fight. We would ask for your continued support to help our residents. Thank you.

DARREN UMANEE Manager, Brooklands Nursing Home.
