Enough dragging county through the mud

12:05pm Friday 29th August 2014

I COMMENT on the latest shenanigans of the Pembrokeshire County Council against a background of a lifetime associated with Local Government in this county.

Why such an outcry over change?

12:03pm Friday 29th August 2014

WHY does there seem to be such a public outcry against the development of a multiplex cinema in the Milford Marina (although perhaps it emanates from a small minority, I must suggest).

Rubbish is a disgrace

1:41pm Thursday 21st August 2014

WHEN I originally heard about an up to date health centre was coming to the Manchester Square in Milford Haven with everything under one roof including Robert Street and Barlow House surgeries, I thought great it’s been a long time overdue.

Essential to have public health and education

1:40pm Thursday 21st August 2014

PEOPLE in this country are rightly proud of the NHS, and many are angry at the creeping privatisation now being introduced.

Stop the trade deal

1:39pm Thursday 21st August 2014

DAVID Cameron likes to portray himself as defender of British sovereignty in dealings with the EU. But at the same time, he is pushing for a trade deal between the EU and the US which hands our sovereignty over to multinational companies.

Buy local as often as you can

1:38pm Thursday 21st August 2014

AS A local dairy farmer, the recent news that the UK government has pledged to procure more local food is welcoming news indeed.

I WISH to express my grave concern about the proposed expansion at Velindre Farm.

No, not here

1:38pm Friday 15th August 2014

WHILST fully appreciating the view that it is ‘farming country’, on Pencaer peninsular, you have to accept it is also tourist country, especially inside the National Park.

Charges alarm

1:37pm Friday 15th August 2014

AS A user of a Piper Lifeline/ Community alarm I was recently sent a Questionnaire asking for comments on the proposed raising of the weekly charge , by Angela Westwood, Head of Pembrokeshire Adult Care Until about a year ago the 3 monthly charge was £16.25, Without any notification this was raised to £17 55 every 3 months, now it is proposed to raise this to £28.34every 3 months Firstly it would be very interesting to learn the cost of this exercise!

Pay it back

11:43am Tuesday 12th August 2014

WHAT is going on at County Hall? All Bryn Parry-Jones et. al. has to do with the disputed £45,000 is give it back from whence it came i.e. to the people of Pembrokeshire and issue a statement or apology so that we can all move on.

How friendly are we?

11:42am Tuesday 12th August 2014

In the last few weeks we have been inundated with publicity about the Commonwealth Games. We have watched with bated breath as the “Queen’s” baton has been carried through all the nations of the Commonwealth, virtually encircling the globe as it went, and we have watched as all the nations of the Commonwealth family have competed together in Glasgow, in what is referred to as the “friendly” games.

On boarders we all have a problem

11:41am Tuesday 12th August 2014

I HAVE been following SWAT (Save Withybush Action Team) and the debate about the special baby unit closures at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, but we need to realise that if we live on the borders of the three counties we all have a problem.

Health board decision

11:40am Tuesday 12th August 2014

IT WAS only a matter of time before a senior officer of Hywel Dda University Health Board tried to deflect blame for closing Withybush Obstetric Unit and SCBU from itself to Royal Colleges and clinicians ( Bernadine Rees, ‘£300K cost of judicial review’, Western Telegraph, July 30).

Port changes

Message of hope praise

12:16pm Friday 25th July 2014

THE Haven Hope Mission Week ended last Sunday and what a week it was. There were many testimonials of individuals who found Jesus in the most unlikely places.

Shocking idea for our health

12:15pm Friday 25th July 2014

RE Saving Withybush’s essential services, anyone would think, reading some recent letters [and comments], that NHS Wales has no relation to NHS England at all and also that accusations of political ‘sophistry’ or ‘bandwagoning’ by one party’s prospective election candidates isn’t practised by other party candidates or present sitting AMs and MPs.

Talk about fracking

12:13pm Friday 25th July 2014

FRACKING may come here to west Wales and we really should know just how dangerous and polluting this industry is.

Trio not duo

12:10pm Friday 25th July 2014

I AM disappointed to read the inaccurate report (July 9) regarding Proms in Pembrokeshire Castle. Mainly regarding the “Pembrokeshire duo” who were in fact a TRIO... their names being, Brian Jobson, Clive Richards and Graham New, not just Brian and Clive.

Stay safe this summer

INCREASING consumption of sugar is currently one of the biggest problems we face in terms of public health.

Collateral damage?

1:00pm Thursday 17th July 2014

BELOW is an open letter concerning the proposed health service changes in Pembrokeshire: To Messers Purt, Martin, Drakeford and Mr. Justice Hickinbottom.

Is decision really one to be hailed?

12:59pm Thursday 17th July 2014

I HAVE just read in a national newspaper, that speaking after hearing that the High Court in London have turned down the appeal against hospital closures in Withybush hospital, “The Welsh Government (Labour) hailed the decision as an important day for changes to NHS services in Wales. It means plans to ... move complex hospital births from Pembrokeshire to Carmarthenshire can go ahead.”

Check the pavement if parking

12:58pm Thursday 17th July 2014

Build support

12:57pm Thursday 17th July 2014

CONGRATULATE our Mayor and Admiral of the Port, Cllr Roy Thomas, for raising the issue of unsightly premises within our town.

More to be done in west

12:57pm Thursday 17th July 2014

HAVE now read two letters sent from Eric Howells of Llanddewi Velfrey regarding transport in the west. While I fully support his comments might I draw attention a little further. He correctly states in both his letters that the line speed to Milford and Fishguard is 55 miles an hour. If he were unfortunate enough as to need to travel to Tenby or Pembroke as most holidaymakers staying in the west and using the railway probably will, he would find the line speed is 35 miles an hour, with according to the Arriva Trains Wales website no plans to improve it in the next 30 years!

Big weekend thank you

RE: The Long Course Weekend - Tenby and Pembroke and surrounding villages.

11:20am Thursday 10th July 2014

RE: Cancer Day Unit, Withybush Hospital, fundraising issue.

No to killjoys

11:18am Thursday 10th July 2014

THE decline in the High Streets of many of our small country towns is well documented, and here in Fishguard we have experienced more than our fair share of closed premises and vanished amenities.

Vulnerable will be hit

11:16am Thursday 10th July 2014

WHAT an absolutely appalling misleading and wrong headline the Western Telegraph chose for “Plans to reduce day care centre charges”

Bandwagon central

11:00am Thursday 10th July 2014

IT DID not go unnoticed that the non-local, London based Labour parliamentary candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, together with the Preseli Pembs candidate, publicly condemn their own Minister in Cardiff for the woeful mismanagement of our local healthcare.

Healthy talk

10:59am Thursday 10th July 2014
