Mark's determination doubly rewarded

12:26pm Tuesday 8th July 2008

The determination of a Pembrokeshire man to overcome a serious brain haemorrhage will be doubly rewarded today (Tuesday), as he receives two post graduate degrees in the same ceremony.

Mark Muller, former senior finance officer with the now defunct Preseli District Council is the first student in the long history of Trinity College, Carmarthen, to receive two such awards at the same time.

He turned to concentrated study on medical advice, following a brain haemorrhage 15 years ago.

His dogged persistence is due to pay dividends today, when Mark, who lives in Hook, will receive a Master's degree in History and a post graduate Diploma in Tourism Management, being the first part of an MBA. He is now studying for his PhD.

"A major sub-arachnoid brain haemorrhage suddenly ended my local government career and I was unable to do anything for a long time," said Mark.

"My consultant advised me to take up intensive study as a means of improving and assisting with cognitive brain function.

"After years of research, both formal and informal, into the history of Pembrokeshire I am delighted to have achieved this record at Trinity College."
