Investigation launched after ferry bump

An investigation is taking place following a minor collision between the Stena Europe and the Irish Ferries vessel the Oscar Wilde on Friday.

The Western Telegraph understands that, as she was coming in to Rosslare Harbour at around 7pm, the port bow of the Stena Europe made contact with the berthed Oscar Wilde.

The Stena Europe had 454 passengers and 71 crew on board at the time. Nobody was injured in the incident, however the scheduled evening sailing to Fishguard was delayed and outgoing passengers were transferred to Irish Ferries’ next available sailing.

A spokesman for Stena Line said:

“Stena Line can confirm that, following a minor incident on Friday evening, the Stena Europe ferry returned to full service on Saturday morning.

“An investigation is ongoing into the incident. We are unable to comment on how the incident happened until the investigation is complete.”

Irish Ferries said that their vessel had not been damaged; however they were also conducting an investigation.
