Pwllgwaelod stranded sheep in RSPCA dramatic cliff rescue

RSPCA officers tackled tricky terrain and abseiled down a steep cliff to rescue a stranded sheep from a narrow ledge near Pwllgwaelod last week.

It is believed the woolly wanderer had been stuck on the ledge for an extended period of time, possibly several weeks.

Using rope rescue equipment the officers reached the narrow ledge and restrained the animal before putting it into a rescue bag and ascending the cliff.

The rescue operation was successful and the sheep was returned to the fields.

"This was a really tricky operation,” said RSPCA inspector Richard Abbott. “We had to clamber through some very difficult terrain just to get to the area where the sheep was stranded.

“There were some very tall and thick bushes at the top of the cliff and this hampered our attempts for a while.
