A 31-year-old man who said cannabis was his friend is due in court today (Friday).

At a previous hearing Michael John Ormond, aged 31, of Ryelands Caravan Park, Kilgetty, pleaded guilty to two charges of producing and possessing cannabis with a street value of more than £2,000.

Ormond admitted growing six cannabis plants at Kilgetty between November 1st, 2011 and September 9th, 2012, and possessing 228g of cannabis at Kilgetty on September 9th.

The court was told police recovered 11 jars of cannabis leaf in a suitcase and found Ormond was using a room in an outbuilding to nurture and grow cannabis plants, using seeds and a special light bought online, and soil and containers bought from a local garden centre.

The court heard Ormond, who had been smoking since he was 14 years old, had grown cannabis for his own use and not to sell.

Ormond had told officers: “I’m quite lonely, cannabis is my friend,” the court was told.

Simon Mumford, for the defence, said his client had undertaken “an experiment which went spectacularly wrong”.

The case was referred to crown court for sentencing because Ormond was in breach of a suspended sentence for possession of an offensive weapon.

Ormond is listed to appear in front of Mr Recorder P Rouch QC today for committal for sentence.
