Pembrokeshire Fire-fighters are promoting Road Safety Week today (Thurdsay), in partnership with other blue light and road safety agencies.
Fire-fighters and members of the community safety team will be providing road safety advice at Castle Square in Haverfordwest today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday).
The campaign is a nationwide event which runs from the 19th – 25th November; at its core is the GO20 campaign which urges drivers to consider their speed and stick to 20mph in urban areas.
20mph is much safer for people walking and cycling because drivers have far more chance to react in an emergency and avoid hitting someone.
Pembrokeshire Fire services county community safety manager Sion Slaymaker said:
“Road collisions are not road accidents, they are preventable and must be stopped.
“I would ask members of the public to come along and have a chat with the Fire Service officers who will be able to assist with road safety issues.
“I would urge motorists to monitor their speed, especially in urban areas where pedestrians and other road users are particularly at risk.”
