Under-fire Pembrokeshire education cabinet member moves roles in reshuffle

There is to be a change at the top table of Pembrokeshire politics following yet more recent scathing reports.

 

Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Councillor Jamie Adams, has announced that Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Education and Welsh Language - who was the subject of a recent vote of no confidence - is exchanging roles with Councillor Ken Rowlands, the member responsible for Environmental and Regulatory Services.


“Following recent events, Councillor George has asked not to continue with his current responsibilities for Education” said the Leader.


“I have therefore decided to move Councillor Ken Rowlands to the position of Cabinet Member for Education.


“Councillor Rowlands is well qualified to undertake his new duties as he has spent a distinguished career in education, spending many years as a head teacher.



“Councillor Huw George will replace Councillor Rowlands as Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services.”


The Leader added that Councillor George would retain his Cabinet responsibilities for the Welsh Language.



Councillor George said: “I have enjoyed working with our schools, teaching staff and pupils.



“I am grateful that the Pembrokeshire Ministerial Board is recognising the progress now being made in making the necessary improvements to our education service.



“I believe the time is right to draw a line in the sand and move forward, taking advantage of the fresh perspectives that a new face will offer.”

What a farce! Members of the leaky sieve that is the IPG report that at their secret meeting today Brian Hall acted as the executioner , probably briefed by senior staff, insisting that HG resigned as it was bringing the IPG into disrepute(more disrepute?).
Interesting that HG is now in charge of the environment in Pembrokeshire. With his penchant for clothing his ward in tarmac he is the obvious choice.

Despicable.

No apologies, no remorse, just utter contempt for the tax payers.

Just goes to show that you do not need any particular aptitude to exchange roles with another councilor.

He has had a vote of no confidence ruled against him and so will have a chance to defile another service.

I honestly thought only this sort of blatant cronyism died with the break-up of the USSR.

It’s about time we stopped paying our council tax, and protested outside the Kremlin on the Cleddau

Exactly what I thought - you could take the comparisons further - Didn't the White Line Owner get into one of the lifeboats whilst the oiks drowned? i.e ParryJones IF he jumps ship will get a HUGE handout :(

And what of our Dear Leader, Mr Bryn Parry Jones? Is he not going to step forward and say at least a couple of words about the buffoonery that's been going on during his watch?

Total agreement with neil p - the contempt shown towards Pembrokeshire tax-payers has been utterly appalling.

Just how much do the good people of Pembrokeshire have to endure. A sideways move for the Councillor and the Chief Exexutive unable to make a simple statement.

If someone is paid nearly 200,000 pounds a year the least you would expect is some form of public message. Not even an apology. How can he continue to stay in post after all he is ultimately responsible for every policy within the Authority. It is his signature on every legal document that is issued by the council.

I am beginning to think that the Chief Executive doesn't actually exist!

Have there been any recent sightings or has he in fact been holed up in a Tibetan monastery for months - maybe contemplating the meaning of life!

After the difficulty the IPG is in over education, I would have thought that the new cabinet member would at least tell us the truth over his carrer in education. When he applied to be a Labour candidate, some time ago, he was a deputy headmaster now as a cabinet member he seems to have inflated his experience to that of headmaster to catch the leader's eye. Was Jamie Adams' statement a deliberate one intended to mollify the electorate or was he hoodwinked by the new education supremo? Someone needs to confess and go.

Don't blame this man - where are the paid officers in all this, and the hierarchy within this county hall - perhaps collectively blame this whole IPGP group and their cohorts for maintaining this style of local government - indeed this PCC, its senior officers and 60 well paid elected members is almost becoming a joke. ,

The Chief exec and the other senior managers are just public or civil servants - they are only there to do what they are told to do, the bidding of "democratically" elected councillors - well that's how it should work :((
May I remind the Councillors that Caerphilly is going to make their Chief Exec to re-apply for his job at a lower salary, after all so many plebs have had to do it

I think that when people start caring more about their big fat salaries, than about the people of this county that they are supposed to be "representing" it is time for them to step down. It's a shame that they don't and an even bigger shame that their superiors don't make them do the right thing.
