Cabinet to look into future of popular Goodwick attraction

Pembrokeshire County Council is proposing to review the future of Goodwick’s Ocean Lab facility.

The review is to assess the business case for the operation of the Ocean Lab.

In Monday’s cabinet meeting councillors will hear a report from the council’s assistant chief executive. This says that, since outline planning permission has been granted for the development of a marina complex nearby, it was appropriate to review the Ocean Lab’s future use.

The Ocean Lab houses a Tourist Information Centre (TIC), café, cyber café, soft play area and an interactive marine life and Sea Trust exhibition.

A report to cabinet recommending the review reveals that the net cost of operating the facility during 2011 – 2012 was £73,000.

If cabinet approves the report, a month-long consultation period will begin involving staff, users and stakeholders with relevant documents available on the council’s website and from the Ocean Lab itself.

The recommendations from the review will then be presented to a future meeting of cabinet.
