There is “real room for optimism” within the business community of Fishguard and Goodwick the chairman of the twin town’s Chamber of Trade and Tourism, has said.

A recent survey of the chamber’s 141 members and 18 non-members revealed that 65% of members are confident or quite confident about the future of their business, with 93% of the non-members either very confident or confident.

The report, commissioned by the chamber and written by French undergraduate Pierre Patout, revealed that a third of the businesses have a national or international business client focus, with the remainder of members concentrating on the very important local market.

The survey calculated that, of the twin town’s 1,000 employees, 58% are directly employed by members of the chamber.

“Despite economic difficulties there was real room for optimism,” said chamber chairman Michael Charlton.
