Man due to be sentenced for BMW smash
9:00am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News
A 32-year-old man who stole ornamental stones and used them to smash the rear windscreen of a BMW, is due to be sentenced at Haverfordwest magistrates court today (Tuesday).
At a hearing in November last year David James Daley, of Bryn Yscawen Farm, Brawdy, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a BMW and stealing two ornamental stones in Hill Mountain, Houghton, on September 1st.
The court heard Daley had been at a beach festival in Llanelli when he received a text message from his then girlfriend saying she had had an affair, so he "hit the vodka".
Daley had little recollection of the incident because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed and told officers vodka “has a peculiar effect on him.”
Prosecutor David Weale said £492 worth of damage had been done to the BMW.
The court was told Daley had been fully complying with a community order, which he had been given for a separate offence, since the beginning of the year.
District judge Vivian Manning-Davies said he was considering a custodial sentence and the incident was “very serious”, but Daley was doing well and there was substantial evidence that sending him into custody would affect his progress.
He was originally due to be sentenced on February 5th, but sentencing was adjourned for a further week until today.
