River search resumes for missing Ben

The search for missing 34-year-old Ben Thompson from Haverfordwest will continue today (Monday).

Ben was in Cardiff city centre on Saturday, February 2nd, for the Wales v Ireland Six Nations game. He attended the game at the Millennium Stadium and was seen by friends in Mill Lane at around 6.30pm.

CCTV footage shows Ben crossing Leckwith Road into Lawrenny Avenue at 7.17pm on Saturday and images capture him minutes later walking down a lane at the end of Lawrenny Avenue towards wasteland.

There have been no further confirmed sightings of Ben since he was seen on CCTV and there has been no activity on his mobile phone.

Ground searches have concluded, subject to any new information, and officers are continuing to focus their efforts on the River Ely.

Specialist sonar equipment has been used on the stretch of river between Leckwith Hill bridge and the mouth of the River Ely near Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. The search will resume this morning.

Ben’s family have been updated and continue to be supported by police family liaison officers.

Ben is described as 5ft 9in tall, with short brown hair, blue eyes, and was last seen wearing brown leather lace-up boots, blue jeans, and a white shirt with blue thin stripes.
