Cliff diving to come back to county

Red Bull cliff diving will return to Pembrokeshire this year, with the energy drink giant having confirmed that the UK leg of its world series will be hosted at the Blue Lagoon.

Divers from all over the world wowed crowds totaling around 3,000 people when the event visited the breached quarry near Abereiddy last year.

This year the Pembrokeshire beauty spot will be the sixth stop on the eight-leg world tour.

County council deputy leader, councillor Rob Lewis, said: “Red Bull makes huge efforts to select some of the most stunning cliff diving locations in the world for its series and for Pembrokeshire to be among them last year was a major coup.

“Their decision to return again this year shows how successful last year’s event was and is a great compliment to our county,” he said.

“Pictures and images of the event will once again showcase Pembrokeshire to the world. It’s a wonderful platform for tourism.”

Divers will take part in a qualifying round on Friday, September 13th, with the finals held on the Saturday.

Tickets for the spectacular event are due to go on sale later this year.
