Centre hopes to find buyer for unique art

A North Pembrokeshire community resource centre has launched an innovative way of raising money.

Canolfan Hermon opened last December on the site of the village’s old school, which was closed in 2006.

Locals bought shares in the site and purchased it two years later. Since then it has been extended to include a 150-seater hall, bar and kitchen.

However, the project still needs £100,000 to complete all the work and local artist Michael Blossom has stepped in by offering a unique piece of art to raise funds.

Michael’s encaustic artwork, made in wax and fused on open flame, Land of My Valley II, is being offered for sale for a £100,000 price tag.

The piece is currently hanging on the wall of the centre but Michael is hoping that a business or individual will snap it up, acquiring a piece of Welsh history and helping the community at the same time.

“This really is a golden opportunity to make an investment and contribution to Welsh cultural history as well,” said Michael.

“For the relatively small sum of £100,000 invested in the cultural heritage of Wales, people can help empower a new paradigm for local community.

“Is this idea mad or brilliant?

It’s definitely brilliant.
