Milford keepy-uppy man scores an internet hit

A middle-aged Milford Haven footballer has become a worldwide internet sensation after he was secretly filmed practicing his incredible soccer skills.

Twenty-stone man mountain Andrew Cassidy, aged 50, loves nothing more than having a solo kick around in a quiet car park in Milford Docks.

But astonished passers-by could not believe his Maradonna-style skills and filmed it from their parked car.

The video (which does contain some bad language) was posted onto the internet where it went viral and has been seen by more than 60,000 people.

And the shy keepy-up expert has now been invited to Dubai to take part in the World Freestyle Football Championships.

Andrew said: "I'm quite agile for a big guy and I've got good hand-eye coordination, balance and timing.

"I'm pretty good even though I've got a lot of blubber on me.

"It's just a matter of practice and I've got plenty of time on my hands for that."

Tubby Andrew can play keepy-uppy for hours and is a local legend in Milford Haven.

He was a fisherman working on the port's fleet trawlers for 15 years but lost his job in 2002 and took up keepy-uppy to fill in the time.

He spends two hours a day in the lonely car park but has no idea how many times he can touch the ball before it hitting the ground.

Chelsea-fan Andrew said: "It must be hundreds - I can keep it up for hours if I really want to.

"It's just something I have learned to do to keep me fit and healthy.

"When i was growing up Pele was my favourite player now it is Lionel Messi.

"I think he's the best player there's ever been - I'd like to take him on at Keepy-uppy to see who would win."

Andrew played football in school but never attracted the interest of professional clubs.

He turned out for local clubs in his teens but has not taken part in a proper soccer for more than 30 years.

But bachelor Andrew has been catapulted into soccer stardom overnight.

He said: "It's crazy to think that so many people have seen my skills - this is just what I do.

"Sometimes kids will have a kick around with me but they always leave after I've shown them up."

Andrew says he plays to work up a sweat and try and burn off a few pounds every day.

He is hoping to meet soccer legend Maradonna who will be the star guest at the opening ceremony of the freestyle championships in April.

The championship organisers are offering to fly Andrew over first class, put him up in a luxury hotel and pay him £200-a-day.

A spokesman said: "He's a sensation - you can't take your eyes off him."
