I have been given leave to introduce a bill in Parliament this week.

Drug use is a big problem in prisons and my bill will increase the powers Prison Authorities have to test prisoners for drug abuse.

Yesterday I organised two events in parliament for MPs. The first was a breakfast meeting with Lord Green, Minister for Trade and Investment, which gave colleagues an opportunity to hear about his work overseas and also raise any issues which businesses in their constituencies had contacted them about.

Ian Austin MP and I then also hosted a briefing with the Black Country Reinvestment Society to hear about how they are scaling up their delivery of business loans across the West Midlands. I found this briefing really useful and hope that local entrepreneurs will be able to take advantage of the support on offer from this group.

This week I also attended a reception held by the British Heart Foundation, who were raising awareness of their efforts to tackle childhood obesity. I was shocked to hear that around 20 per cent of 10 year olds are now classed as obese, and glad to see the effort that the charity is putting in to increase physical activity and promote healthy eating.

Tomorrow in Stourbridge I will be hosting an important meeting on Asthma care, having been originally contacted by some constituents who were concerned that schools were not able to keep inhalers on the property for general use by pupils in case of an emergency. I have invited a number of interested groups to meet about this problem including the Council, local clinicians, and Asthma UK and we will discuss how to best look after pupils with asthma in Dudley, in light of the fact that only around of a quarter of students with asthma take their inhaler to school with them.

After this I will be heading off to the Wollaston Post Office to officially open it after the recent refurbishment. I am very glad that residents will now have access to all of the Post Office’s services in this branch, and am looking forward to seeing what changes have been made. I finish my day in the Crystal Leisure Centre with one of my regular advice surgeries.

On Saturday I am looking forward to attending Prizegiving at Old Swinford Hospital, I was honoured to be invited to give the closing speech.
