THE Haverfordwest uncle of US soldier Bradley Manning has said the 35-year sentence handed down was less than the family were expecting, but that he shouldn’t be jailed at all.
Kevin Fox, was speaking to BBC Wales shortly after news from the sentencing hearing came in.
“To be honest, it’s less than I thought, that’s one good thing,” said Mr Fox. “I know there’s an appeal coming up, hopefully it will get reduced again.”
Mr Fox said the family had been expecting Manning to be facing a sentence of up to 60 years in jail.
He added: "In my honest opinion, he shouldn't have got any time at all. In my eyes he is a hero."
Manning lived for a time in Pembrokeshire after his parents split up, and attended Tasker Milward School in Haverfordwest before returning to America.
His mother still lives in the county.
