THE Co-operative Group has pledged its support for two Ceredigion artists who are working to bring an historic local poem back to life.
Penny Jones discovered the poem “Crys y Mab/The Shirt of a Lad” in the Cardigan Museum, and along with Hilary Ramsden is preparing to create a performance of the main theme, which involved a woman washing her lover’s shirts in the River Teifi.
The Co-operative is funding a washing line for Penny and Hilary who are calling out for lovers to come forward with their shirts which will then be hung across the River Teifi in an event that will hopefully see members of the local rugby team washing the dirty laundry.
Penny said: “We’ve met a lot of interesting people since embarking on our shirt and washing line mission and I’m sure we will gather some wonderful stories that will really do justice to the original poem. It’s fantastic that The Co-operative recognises the value in what we are doing and has agreed to support by covering the cost of a washing line to span the width of the River Teifi.”
The washing line event will take place at the Cardigan Bridge on Sunday, September 15 between 4pm and 5pm.
