Christmas Together returns for 2013

THE Pill Social Centre in Milford Haven will be buzzing once again this Christmas Day.
Following the huge success of Christmas Together last year, it has been confirmed that the event will return this year, hopefully bigger and better.
Last year 64 people, who might otherwise have been on their own, came together on Christmas Day to enjoy a three-course festive meal in family-friendly environment.
It was organised by the then Mayor of Milford Haven, Councillor Guy Woodham.
He said: “It provided companionship for many people on what is the most important, and potentially loneliest, day of the year.
“We hope that the success of last year will attract even more people in 2013 who would otherwise be on their own.”
The day will follow the same format as last year, running from 11am until 6pm, with entertainment before and after lunch.
It is hoped enough funding will be secured so that the event will be free for all attendees, including transport.
A small committee has been formed, with additional support on the day from volunteers, many of whom would otherwise themselves be alone during the holidays.
Colin Sharp, Secretary/Trustee of the Pill Social Centre and a Christmas Together Committee member said: “We are conscious that for a number of reasons there are individuals who are alone and that at Christmas time this can, for some, be particularly difficult. While there are many recognised ‘good causes’ loneliness is one that still suffers from a certain degree of social stigma yet can have a very damaging effect on someone’s mental and physical wellbeing.”
If you live in Milford Haven or the surrounding area and will be alone on Christmas Day, or know someone else who may be alone, and would like to attend the day, the committee would like to hear from you. A referral system is operated to ensure that those who may be reluctant to personally apply are still invited.
There is also an opportunity to volunteer and help make the day a great success.
The committee can be contacted via email: email@example.com or by writing to Guy at: 4, Coombs Drive, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, SA73 2NZ. Name(s) and contact details need to be provided at the latest by December 2.
