MEMBERS of Goodwick Brass Band were special guests at a reception in County Hall last week.
They were invited by Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Arwyn Williams in recognition of their recent achievement of being crowned national champions.
The 29-piece band competed at the Racecourse Stadium in Cheltenham last month, producing an exceptional performance of Kenneth Downie’s Purcell Variations.
Goodwick’s Musical Director, Matthew Jenkins said: “It is an unbelievable achievement and a dream come true.
“This is a youthful but dedicated band which has worked immensely hard over the last few months.”
The band’s chairman Tony Evans hailed the event as the best day of his band career. He said: “We have worked long and hard to put the band on the map of British banding.”
Goodwick Brass Band celebrated its centenary in 2011 and earlier this year won promotion to the National First Section, in which it will compete in the coming season.
The band will be giving a concert at Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall at 7.30pm this coming Friday (October 18).
