DOGS and cats in need of loving homes are enjoying an early Christmas present thanks to a donation of ‘treats’ from a local business.

Staff from Antur Insurance, which has branches in Haverfordwest, Swansea, Ammanford and Barry, have donated two crates of food, toys, collars and accessories to Greenacres animal rescue centre, based in Talbenny, near Haverfordwest.

Twenty-two cats and 20 dogs currently call Greenacres home, all of them looking for a new owner.

And the burden on the centre is sadly likely to increase over the Christmas period, as owners abandon old or sick animals in favour of new puppies and kittens.

Among those looking for a two-legged friend is one-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier Harvey.

Harvey has been at Greenacres for six months – longer than any other dog at the centre - and would love to find a new home by Christmas.

A lively, bouncy dog, Harvey needs a loving home and an owner who will take him for lots of walks.

Georgie Pearson, of Greenacres, says Harvey would make an excellent companion for someone with other dogs or a family with older children.

As well its adoption service, Greenacres is always looking for foster parents to help look after animals until they find a permanent home.

“To see the transformation once a dog finds a family is absolutely lovely,” said Georgie.
