HAVERFORDWEST’s bright future is the focus of the town’s Chamber of Commerce as it launches its ideas for what could be developed.

The first part of its vision is for a multiplex cinema in the town centre and the chamber has commissioned artistic impressions to show just how good the transformation could be.

Kinver Kreations was asked by the chamber executive to draw up plans for a cinema, located next to Wilko’s, as well as changes to the road network to ensure the linking of new ventures to the existing town centre.

“Such aspects are extremely important to preserve the town’s commercial and social integrity, to prevent its existing life’s blood being drained away,” said a chamber spokesman.

The grand idea would see more than half an acre of land freed up at Morrison’s roundabout with a simpler and safer traffic light controlled junction. There would also be room for more retail and food outlets as well as more car parking space.

“By utilising this area, there is a very real regeneration opportunity in the heart of our county town, which is deliverable, and will significantly add to the vitality and long term viability of Haverfordwest town centre.

“Serious outside interest is being shown in Haverfordwest, and the chamber sees this as an outstanding opportunity for the people of Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire to take a real step forward and it should not be missed,” the spokesman added.

At last, somebody has a sense of vision, its just a shame Pembrokeshire County Coucil do not share the same forward looking thinking with the Cabinet member for economy, Cllr David Pugh's, ideas for town centre regeneration limited to making comments such as traders want increased car parking charges to "encourage turnover".
I wish the Chamber of Commerce the best of luck with this proposal, but one note of caution, isnt this council owned land, and wouldn't this also require a major highway realignment? So as the saying goes, "good luck there then".

I didnt think too much about the Conygar connection when I first read Gogledd's comment, but a quiet drink in my local hostelry this evening with a friend who works within the Kremlin has made me think again.
FACT - the road works necessary to create the space for this proposal are already planned by PCC and will be funded by Conygar from their Slade Lane housing/Sainsburys development. This is common knowledge in the Kremlin I am told.
CONJECTURE - Conygar are aware of the some of the negativity surrounding their already approved developments and this may well be a clever way of deflecting attention by giving the impression that the Chamber of Commerce are leading rather than themselves.
CONSPIRACY? - It was also noticed that a senior executive from Conygar was with the delegation that appeared in a separate article regarding 450 new homes, but did NOT appear in the photo with Persimmon Homes and PCC members that was published by the WT last week.
Food for thought Gogledd?

I'd certainly start visiting Haverfordwest town centre again If they had parking spots with enough room for my HUGE Vauxhall Zafira - @ the mo' I'll visit the supermarkets with their large car parks and free parking but hand over an extra penny to BPJs council for parking in a multi storey car park that should have been closed on elf'n'safety ground If it wasn't a council one ?

I see many of the towns in our county some degeneration and entrophy to their shops and high streets. Empty shops, where the only happenings are the flyers accumulating behind their doors !

When is our county town council going to try and encourage some new activity to them?, afterall not every one goes to Haverfordwest to shop.
