HUNDREDS of festive bathers have splashed out in the sunshine to make the 43rd Tenby Boxing Day Swim a huge success.

The fancy dress theme of Pantomime inspired Snow White, Ugly Sisters, fairies both good and wicked, Puss in Boots (and without boots) and even a panto zebra to take the plunge in the 10 degree sea.

Huge crowds thronged Tenby’s North Beach and lined every vantage point to enjoy the silly spectacle and the cheering swimmers surged for the sea to be greeted by the Tenby lifeboat, which had made a special launch.

More than 550 swimmers were presented with their commemorative medal around a warming beach bonfire, and it is hoped the event will raise thousands of pounds for charities and good causes.

The swim’s nominated charities are Skanda Vale Hospice; The Rudy Trust; the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome charity and the District Brownies Centenary Appeal.

Said Chris Osborne, chairman of event organiser, Tenby Sea Swimming Association: “It’s been another great swim, with glorious weather creating ideal conditions. We’ve seen some highly entertaining costumes and it’s been a brilliant morning for everyone - including, we hope, all the charities who will benefit.”
