A former teacher from Tenby died following a fall at home an inquest heard last week.

Janice Anne Jones of Gumfreston, Church Park, who had worked as a teacher in London throughout her career, died in September aged 73.

HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire Mark Layton heard that Mrs Jones had impaired mobility, using sticks to walk, and needed a second hip replacement but had refused after losing faith in the health service.

She had hosted a small birthday party for a friend on the day she died which had been greatly enjoyed.

Her husband, Gareth Davies-Jones had cleared up following the party and headed out for his regular visit to the local pub.

When he returned around 6pm he found Mrs Jones lying face down but conscious and breathing. She was able to tell him that she had fallen and hit her head.

Mr Davies-Jones helped his wife sit up and went to get help but by the time an ambulance arrived around five minutes later she had lost consciousness and died shortly after arriving at hospital.

A post mortem found that Mrs Jones had suffered a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding as a result of the fall.

Mr Layton said: “Mrs Jones had fallen at her home address. This was a tragic accident.”

He recorded a determination of accidental death.
