A PREFERRED developer for Narberth’s old primary school site has been identified by Pembrokeshire County Council, it was confirmed on Monday.

The building and playground, in a prime location at the entrance to the Town Moor car park, has been lying empty for over five years since the town's new school opened in Jesse Road, It has been on the market for the past two years and advertised by the council as suitable for a retail/mixed use development.

At the authority’s cabinet meeting on Monday morning, it was recommended that a conditional contract be entered into with Abbeymore Estates/Knox and Wells Ltd, on terms acceptable to the council's director of development and on the grounds that all necessary consents are obtained.

Commented the town’s county councillor, Wynne Evans: " I am delighted that approval has now been given to sell the former primary school to a preferred bidder. This much-loved building has laid empty for five years, and now the site will see full redevelopment. I am sure the new owners will, in due course, submit a full planning application, which will follow the normal planning process. This will allow input from the public."
