Storm warning for Pembrokeshire coast as wind, rain and high tides return

Pembrokeshire is facing the possibility of serious flooding again this weekend.
Heavy rain and strong southerly winds are forecast in Pembrokeshire from Friday onwards, together with exceptionally high tides.
It’s possible that the impacts may be similar to those experienced in early January, Pembrokeshire County Council warned.
Homeowners whose properties are at risk of flooding are advised to take precautions and get bags of sand from local builders’ merchants before the weekend.
Members of the public are strongly advised to stay away from the coast during any storm period for their personal safety.
The council said it will be working with multi agency partners to minimise the impact of the storm on the community and respond to any emergency. Teams will be on standby at key locations over the weekend.
Natural Resources Wales said a band of heavy rain is expected throughout Friday which is likely to lead to localised surface water flooding particularly across the south of the country.
Motorists are reminded to take extra care while travelling.
Of greater concern is the risk of coastal flooding. From Friday night into Saturday high tides combined with very strong winds will create a high risk of coastal flooding.
Most of the Welsh coastline is likely to experience stormy conditions, but the worst affected areas are likely to be the south and west Wales coasts where tidal surges and large waves could cause localised property flooding and transport disruption.
Current forecasts show that the tides will peak on Saturday morning and again during Saturday evening. High tides and strong winds will persist into next week with Monday morning’s high tide to again create a risk of coastal flooding.
Natural Resources Wales’ staff will be checking our coastal and river defences are in good working order, clearing watercourses and working closely with local authorities to help ensure communities are prepared ahead of the weekend’s weather.
