PEMBROKESHIRE volunteers have continued with the coastal clean-up by collecting an impressive 100 bags of rubbish from a single beach.

Marloes Sands was the focus of the latest beach clean organised by Keep Wales Tidy and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in conjunction with the local community.

During recent high tides and stormy weather a phenomenal amount of waste was thrown up by the sea, from tiny pieces of plastic to clumps of netting and other rubbish.

But many hands made light work, with volunteers working hard to move the waste across the vast expanse of beach. Steve Jones from Pembrokeshire County Council used the Argocat to transport the bags safely to the car park for collection.

Mari Williams from Keep Wales Tidy said: “The dedication and commitment shown by the volunteers on Sunday was outstanding.

“In less than perfect weather conditions they continued to clear the beach until the whole stretch was covered. We are very lucky to have such great volunteers in Pembrokeshire.”

Keep Wales Tidy supports volunteer groups to look after their adopted beaches via the Welsh Government-funded Tidy Towns project.

Further beach cleans will taking place at Porthlysgi on Thursday, February 13, Saundersfoot on February 14, and Freshwater West on February 27.
